Location and Population
Laredo, Texas is 150 miles West of the deep water port of Corpus Christi: 150 miles North of highly industrialized Monterrey, Mexico; 150 miles South of San Antonio, Texas; and just across the Rio Grande River from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
In 2000, the Census Bureau report: in Metropolitan Statistical Area MSA terms (City plus surrounding area) Laredo’s MSA is the second fastest growing in Texas and the one of the fastest growing in the U.S.
During the 10 years since 1990, Laredo’s MSA population grew by 50.0% to reach 200,000 in 2000. The January, 2008 MSA population stands at about 233,152 people. With over 500,000 people living just across the river in Nuevo Laredo, the Los Laredos area has a combined population of over 733,152.
